The Chomp and Stomp 5K, Chili Cook-Off and Bluegrass Festival will take place all day Saturday in Cabbagetown. It will be MORE CROWDED than usual. Please consider this if you are bringing children, and be sure to take advantage of Milltown Arms Tavern's free valet parking.

Honoring Cabbagetown's past as a little bit of country in the big city, the Chomp and Stomp 5K, Chili Cook-Off and Bluegrass Festival on Saturday, November 5 features the old-time music that was popular when residents and mill workers like Fiddlin' John Carson lived here. They played that old-time music and preserved rural traditions right here in the middle of Atlanta. And, what's better than chili and bluegrass on a November afternoon? Folks from miles around descend on our old mill town for a good old-fashioned cook-off!

Smoking is allowed in the Milltown Arms Tavern per City of Atlanta Ordinance. The owners recommend that parents with small children consider this before bringing them.

Calling All Runners and Tailgaters!!!

Speaking from personal experience, running isn't exactly a sport that involves tailgating, but the folks over at Atlanta Beltline have put together a great event. We are excited to be participating in the Atlanta BeltLine Eastside 10K at 10 a.m. on Dec. 3.

The Atlanta BetlLine Eastside 10k is a run/walk showcasing undeveloped portions of the Atlanta BeltLine along Piedmont Park, the new Historic Fourth Ward Park and Skatepark, Freedom Park and the neighborhoods along the Eastside Trail.

They have invited Atlanta-based alumni associations to compete in the Tailgate Challenge. Two or three associations will be awarded cash prizes or a happy hour at a top Atlanta restaurant based on who best displays their school colors and enthusiasm while they run, volunteer, tailgate and support the runners.

An award will also be given to the school who enters the most runners in the 10K (be sure to tell them that you are with K-State when you register). In addition, the event features free food, music,
two free beer tickets for runners and volunteers, the Mounty Patrol, Nutcracker Characters and more!

Since the
Atlanta Chapter of the KU Alumni Association is also participating, we want our group to have a great showing!

Run: Sara Edwards, your Club Leader, will be running the 10K. Want to join her? Register online now.
Be sure to indicate that you are with K-State when you register.

Volunteer: Simply e-mail Dan Popovic, Running Series Director at popovic@mindspring.com. Don't forget to let him know that you are a K-Stater.

Tailgate: Got a K-State pop-up canopy sitting in your basement from your tailgating days in Manhattan? Come show your school spirit, and tailgate along the race route. The race itself will start in Piedmont Park and will end on Kanuga Street prior to Monroe Drive. Registration and pre- and post-race activities will take place at Park Tavern, located at 500 10th Street in Atlanta. If you would like to volunteer to lead the K-State tailgaters, please e-mail atlksualumni@gmail.com.

Get your morning started with this fun event, and then migrate a short distance down Monroe Drive (which turns into Boulevard) to the Milltown Arms Tavern for the
K-State vs. Iowa State Watch Party (Kickoff at 12:30 p.m. ET).
